Native Client: A Technology for Running Native Code on the Web - Google

Google announced "Native Client", a technology that aims to give web developers access to the full power of the client's CPU while maintaining the browser neutrality.
Modern PCs can execute billions of instructions per second, but today's web applications can access only a small fraction of this computational power. If web developers could use all of this power, just imagine the rich, dynamic experiences they could create. At Google we're always trying to make the web a better platform. That's why we're working on Native Client, a technology that aims to give web developers access to the full power of the client's CPU while maintaining the browser neutrality, OS portability and safety that people expect from web applications. Today, we're sharing our technology with the research and security communities in the hopes that they will help us make this technology more useful and more secure.

The IBM open virtual client provides immediate value for cost, agility, and security concerns. Cost savings can be attributed to lower license costs and savings on the hardware, maintenance, energy, and management of distributed enterprise desktops.
According to IBM, the virtual Linux desktop suite could cost large companies as little as $59 per person. Emoji for Unicode: Open Source Data for the Encoding Proposal - Google

Emoji for Unicode. Emoji (絵文字) is popular among Japanese cell phone users. Last month Apple announced iPhone 2.2 firmware update, included support for Japanese emoji icons.

There are active, on-going efforts to standardize a complete set of emoji as regular symbols characters in Unicode. This involves determining which symbols are already covered in Unicode, and which new symbols would be needed. We're trying to help this effort along by sharing all of our mapping data and tools in the form of the "emoji4unicode" open source project. The goal is more effective collaboration with other members of the Unicode Consortium and review by the cell phone carriers and other interested parties.

Amazon Announces CloudFront (AWS)

Amazon Announces CDN Services, CloudFront
Amazon CloudFront is a web service for content delivery. It integrates with other Amazon Web Services to give developers and businesses an easy way to distribute content to end users with low latency, high data transfer speeds, and no commitments.

Amazon CloudFront delivers your content using a global network of edge locations. Requests for your objects are automatically routed to the nearest edge location, so content is delivered with the best possible performance. Amazon CloudFront works seamlessly with Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) which durably stores the original, definitive versions of your files. Like other Amazon Web Services, there are no contracts or monthly commitments for using Amazon CloudFront – you pay only for as much or as little content as you actually deliver through the service.
